How many cups of coffee do you drink daily?

Studies show that most people around you drink at least two cups of coffee daily. While the reason for this points towards staying awake and focused, it seems the cups of coffee hold immense health benefits. As you gulp that mug of warming hot coffee while going through your personal injury law notes, know these about coffee.

Your favorite dark beverage is nutrient and antioxidant-laden. Coffee contains potassium, pantothenic acid, niacin, magnesium, manganese, and riboflavin.

  1. It boosts your energy levels and makes you smarter

Caffeine in coffee is a stimulant and is responsible for the psychoactive properties of coffee. As soon as you drink coffee, caffeine is absorbed into the bloodstream before traveling to the brain.

Once in the brain, caffeine blocks the inhibitory neurotransmitter adenosine, increasing the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine. These two neurotransmitters increase the speed at which the neurons fire signals. Consequently, you become more vigilant, your energy levels spike, mood lifts, your reaction time increases, and your cognitive function improves too.

  1. It boosts your physical performance

Besides your slow-digesting complex carbohydrates, add coffee to your pre-workout routine. Caffeine stimulates the cells of the nervous system which send signals to fat cells to break down body fat. The fat cells are broken down and transported to muscle cells as fatty acids which are used as fuel.

Also, caffeine will increase the levels of adrenaline in the blood – the fight and flight hormone, preparing the body for intense physical activity/ exertion.

  1. It helps you burn fat

Wondering which pill you should take to burn more fat? How about a few cups of coffee? Caffeine in coffee burns fat hence its incorporation in fat burning pills and supplements.

How does it burn fat? Caffeine boosts your metabolism – an active metabolism is all you need to burn fats passively. By increasing your metabolic rate by 3 to 11 percent, you are sure to burn fats.

The only downside is that fat burning effects reduce when you are a habitual coffee drinker.

  1. It could help to lower your risk of Type II Diabetes

A health problem affecting more than 300 million people worldwide, a result of lifestyle change, type 2 II diabetes could be kept at bay using coffee. Elevated blood sugar levels is a characteristic of diabetes as a result of insulin insensitivity or insulin resistance.

Coffee could be effective in reducing the risk of Type II diabetes as it contains magnesium and a high load of antioxidants which improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. The risk reduction is between 2 and 67 percent.

Coffee could also lower the risk of Type II Diabetes through the improved performance during physical activity, as well as its fat-burning effects.

  1. It reduces the risk of getting Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and dementia

Coffee could be all you need to ward off neurodegenerative diseases. It reduces the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s by up to 65 percent and between 32 and 60 percent for Parkinson’s disease.

The reduced risk of getting Parkinson’s disease comes from the fact that it prevents the death of dopamine-generating neurons in the brain.

The stimulating effects of caffeine are responsible for the reduced risk of these neurodegenerative diseases.

  1. It also protects the liver

With illnesses like liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, and the fatty liver disease, it is relieving to learn that coffee could protect the liver from damage. Coffee has protective effects for the liver.

  1. Coffee makes you happier, and it fights depression

Depression is affecting a large percentage of the population. While it remains mostly untreatable, coffee has been shown to lift the depressive episodes, while also reducing your risk of getting depressed.

Other benefits include:

  1. A reduction in the risk of getting cancer thanks to the antioxidants in the drink
  2. Reduced risk of stroke and heart disease
  3. And, coffee could help you live longer
